I found quilting through other crafty pursuits. I have always been drawn to fiber arts but tended to enjoy the tactile arts of hand embroidery and crochet. Several years ago, a coworker, knowing I enjoyed embroidery gifted me machine embroidery thread. I bought an inexpensive embroidery machine and was amazed at what was possible with this technology. As things go with us crafters, I quickly outgrew that machine. I soon had an embroidery machine large enough that allowed me to start piecing blocks and quilting in-the-hoop. If you have ever used an embroidery machine this way you know it works beautifully but is very time consuming. This was the moment the quilting bug bit. Now my expensive embroidery/sewing machine is mostly used for traditional piecing and my longarm for the quilting.
Why I Quilt
About Me
My name is Tonya Knuffman-Litherland. I live in Le Roy, Il with my husband and two cats. When I'm not in my craft room, I work in health care as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. I love to quilt on the longarm. The "wow" that happens when a pieced top is completed with the texture of the quilt design excites me. As the saying goes, "don't judge a book by its cover," it is a mistake to judge a pieced top before it is quilted. I am blessed to have a longarm and hope that you will allow me to turn your flimsy into a function quilt.
