This quilt was created as part of BNMQG Kona Mini Challenge. The 2025 Kona color of the year is Nocturn, the darkest purple you see in the quilt above. The fabric lines that are represented here are the magenta/pink shades from the Burnishes line by AdornIt and the background fabric is Robert Kaufman Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in Black. I used youpatch.com to design this pixel quilt from an amalgamation of pictures of Pluto which I then altered to bring the heart shape that forward. I choose Pluto as my subject for this quilt as a play-off of the color Nocturn. Nocturn brings to mind remote darkness, Pluto fits this as the farthest plant from the sun in the solar system of my childhood. Pluto has been a favorite of mine ever since his planetary status was downgraded in 2006. The quilting is a Prostitcher design "Rays 1." I choose this design because it is geometric like the piecing but still features a circular shape.
